I've always been fascinated with the AMD FX processor. Yes it earned a bad reputation due to its performance and heat issues, but I don't care. It's a piece of computer history and I finally got to build one.

I bought the cpu, motherboard, and ram off Mercari as a bundle. I also picked up a RX 460 off of a different listing to go in this build. I had a dusty spare case and when the packages arrived, I promptly put it together. Then I discovered that I only had a 500gb mechanical hard drive for storage. I use Linux Mint instead of Windows so it's not that big of a deal. I'll put a sata SSD in here soon. Once I had it together, she fired right up. Linux Mint installed with zero issues.
I know that this computer will have performance limitations in the modern computer age. Well we're not going to be running any games that this computer can't. I mostly emulate Playstation 2 games. For me, it's easier to play the Playstation 2 games on the computer instead of hooking up my old fat Playstation 2. This computer plays the games flawlessly with no studders or slowdowns. After I took the picture, I added in 8 more gigs of DDR 3 ram. So now I have a total of 16 gigs of ram. The bundle came with 8 gigs of Corsair memory.
What's next for this rig? Definitely a new SSD. I'm seriously considering swapping the cpu with a FX 8350. It's only about $50 on ebay. Since I have the extra PCIe slots, I might as well find some cards to put in them. I want to experiment with a PCIe NVME adapter for even more storage. I might even get a PCIe wifi/Bluetooth card. The possibilities are endless!
I hope you enjoyed this computer adventure!
Tight lines and God bless!
